Edinburgh Military Tattoo Tour 2023/2024

The Tattoo was cancelled for the first time in its 70 year existence last year, so organisers are keen to bounce back with the show being brought to customers under a new brand.

Next year's show will be the first under a whole host of new event organisers, including the new Creative Director, Michael Braithwaite, who says the event will be a celebration of connection between people and music, having sorely missed out on one of the city's greatest attractions during the last two years.

He said: "Through the challenges and separation of the last two years, people of every culture have used their voices to remain connected. These voices can be found in many ways – the piper through music, the dancer with movement, the poet through words and the drummer with a beat.

Date Selection [2023 Tattoo: Stories]

"Voices is our desire to make next year’s Tattoo not just a reunion, but a celebration of the connections, cultures and languages that bring us together at the unique setting of Edinburgh Castle.

"I’m hugely excited to play a part in the history and spectacle of the Tattoo, helping it return to the global stage, re-energised and invigorated for a new era."

A military tattoo is a performance of music or a display put on by armed forces, with the name having nothing to do with body ink. In fact, it actually derives from a Dutch phrase supposedly created during the Thirty Year's War.

In 2010, the event was renamed The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo after Her Majesty the Queen bestowed the Royal title in honour of its 60th birthday.
